Inspire Award at the Virginia Championship on Dec. 1.
This award is given to the team that the judges felt truly embodied the ‘challenge’ of the FTC program. This team serves as an inspiration as to what this program, and the young minds involved, can accomplish. The team that receives this award has performed well in all judging categories and was chosen by the judges as having best represented a role model FIRST Tech Challenge team.
Judges should use match performance, observations made during interviews and in the pit area, the team’s Engineering Notebook, and performance on the playing field in determining the winner of this award.
Connect Award at the Maryland Championship on Feb. 23.
This award is given to the team that judges feel most connected with their local community and the engineering community. The best team is more than the sum of its parts, and recognizes that their schools and communities play an essential part to their success. The recipient of this award is recognized for helping the community understand FIRST, the FIRST Tech Challenge, and the team itself. In addition, the team that wins this award is aggressively seeking engineers and exploring the opportunities available in the world of engineering, science, and technology.
This is what the judges said about the winner of the Connect Award:
The members of this team worked as FIRST volunteers at Regional and State competitions, mentored at FIRST Lego League team, and displayed their robot to the public on numerous occasions. This team is applying for a 501C3 permit to operate as a non-profit organization. This team truly understands that community and teamwork matter.
